Power Tools and Accessories is
one of the divisions within the 4,000-employee, $1 billion, strong Robert Bosch
Tool Corporation - North American brand of the largest power tool manufacturer
in the world Robert Bosch GmbH. Bosch offers a large line of cordless and corded
power tools developed to withstand most construction jobsites and allow construction
personnel to better manage their work with professional work tools.
Bosch Tool Engineering:
Considerations taken by Bosch's engineering development include a
drive to introduce tools with low noise levels and vibration, improved power-to-tool
weight ratios, quick & easy accessory changes and dust extraction/entrapment
for a cleaner work environment.
The Bosch jig saw employs a counter balance mechanism which
results in low vibration. The Bosch orbit sander uses a dual bearing pad mount
system that makes operation of the tool so smooth one can use the orbit sander
with "one finger" on its grip top.
In striving for clean, dust-free work environment Bosch introduced
tools that have dust collecting capabilities including dust ports, canisters,
and a trademarked dust extraction component system called Airsweep.
Now changing blades on a Bosch drill is fast and easy with Bosch's
Clic. This is the first system for easily switching blades without using tools.
This method of changing blades is so popular that over jog saw brands have tried
to duplicate it. For rotary and demolition hammers, Bosch includes the SDS-plus
and SDS-max systems. The Power Change hole saw system is a stronghold in the
quick-change accessory tradition.
Bosch Tool Ergonomics:
Since the 1950's ergonomics have been studied to improve tool operation,
safety and efficiency. Bosch was one of the original power tool makers to implement
ergonomic designs into hand-held construction power tools.
Location of Tool Controls: Bosch tools are developed with
consideration for control button locations. The switches and knobs are located
for right and left hand users. Most tool controls are large enough to be operable
with a gloved hand. The tool handles include 360-degree ergonomic grips for optimum
positioning during those tough construction jobs.
Bosch Tool Grips: Handles and gripping surfaces designed
by Bosch allow for a comfortable yet solid grip. Better control is achieved by
designing multiple hand positions and dampening motor vibration.
Bosch Tool Operating Noise: The Bosch tool using air discharge
outlets and motor cooling fans that deflect the sound waves produced away from
the tool operator. The operating pitch of the motor can be re-engineered to create
a noise that is not offensive to the operator ear, when tools are operated for
a long period of time.
Bosch Tool Firsts:
From the beginning Bosch engineers and technicians not only built
tools, but also developed visions and translated them into a reality.
1932 - Bosch produced the first electric rotary hammer. Subsequent
introductions included the lightest 2 Kg. rotary hammer in the world (1981) and
SDS-Max®; bit holding system (1990) for quick, easy hammer bit changes.
1946 - When a Bosch employee installed a blade on his wife's
sewing machine almost half a century ago, the idea for a jig saw was born. The
very first portable jig saw was introduced in 1947. Today, Bosch still enjoys
the premier worldwide reputation for this tool.
1997-1998 - The revolutionary 1617-1618 fixed-base routers
were launched in 1997, and the first power hand saw system with flush cutting
(Finecut) came out in 1998.
2002 - The first cordless drill/drivers engineered to survive
multiple drops from more than one-story (10-ft) onto solid concrete were launched
in 2002. The Bosch Brute-ToughT cordless drill/drivers changed perspectives on
how long cordless tools should
last.
2003 - The first 12-inch sliding compound dual-bevel miter
saw with all up-front bevel and miter controls was launched in 2003. The
line continued to grow with the first 10-inch sliding compound dual-bevel and
12-inch dual bevel miter saws in 2004.
2004 - The world's first Power BoxT, all-in-one power
center and jobsite radio/CD player with a 4-way GFCI power outlet, integrated
Bosch battery charger, 12-volt outlet perfect for charging cell phones and two-way
radio, AM/FM digital radio, and auxiliary jack for MP3 players was launched in
2004.
2004 - Direct ConnectT, the world's first cord management
system, debuted on the CS20 construction saw. receiving numerous awards for the
innovation, Bosch also offered Direct ConnectT on the new RS20 reciprocating
saw launched later in the year.
2004 - In direct response to the newly recognized health hazards
related to vibration over-exposure on the job, Bosch developed an innovative anti-vibration
handle system to reduce vibration by an astounding 60%. The system offers professionals
uncompromising comfort in all grinding applications.
